Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition goes to Borderland in Arizona, USA.

Jenny Dale (Chicago Metropolitan Sanctuary Alliance/Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition); Stephanie Dernek (8th Day Center for Justice/Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition); and Karina Wegman (Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition) will be traveling to Arizona September 3-19. * Learn about what is happening in Arizona and how we can support their work
* Learn about how the anti-immigrant policies are being played out on the ground level in Phoenix with Sherriff Joe Arpaio.
* Learn about the impact of the anti-immigrant movement in Douglas, AZ and border communities
* Begin the groundwork for strengthening our relationship with Arizona and borderlands to learn how Chicago can be in solidarity with them
* Begin the groundwork for future delegation to the Border region
* Connect with New Sanctuary folks in Arizona and visit Family in Sanctuary in Kansas City.
 
Tentative Itinerary will be:
Sep. 3: Depart Chicago
Sep. 4 Arrive in Flagstaff, AZ
Sep. 5: Flagstaff, AZ
Sep. 6: Travel to Tucson, AZ
Sep. 7: Tucson, AZ
Sep. 8-12: No More Deaths Camp in desert
Sep. 13: San Javier Mission on Tohono O'odham Nation
Sep. 14: Travel to Douglas, AZ
Sep. 15: Travel to Phoenix, AZ
Sep. 16: Phoenix, AZ
Sep. 17: Depart from Phoenix, AZ
Sep. 18: Kansas City
Sep. 19: Return to Chicago

2. 3. We will be taking donations to No More Deaths, a humanitarian aid organization working in the Arizona Desert (http://www.nomoredeaths.org/)
Below you will find a list of specific items to donate. We will be collecting donations through September 2nd. Donation Drop-off locations: 1. You can bring donations tothe Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition Postville gathering at Tianguis Coffee Shop on August 27th (located at 2003 S. Damen) 2. Wellington Ave. United Church of Christ (located at 615 W. Wellington Ave.) From 9:00am-2:00pm, Monday-Friday. 3. 8th Day Center for Justice (located at 205 W. Monroe) from 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Items to Donate No More Deaths: FOOD PACKS: Into each Gallon-Sized Closable Plastic Bag, place 7-10 items, a least 1 from each line below. - Sports Drink - Pop-top lid meat or tuna - Nuts, trail mix, dried fruit, chips, fig bars, or cookies - Granola, power, or snack bars - Applesauce, pudding, or fruit cup (with spoon; please place in extra zip lock because they tend to break) - Peanut butter or cheese filled crackers FIRST AID KITS: Use Small Closable Plastic Bag - 4 to 8 bandages - Gauze pads - Small first aid cream or ointment - Alcohol wipes - Sunscreen, chapstick, hand cream, or lotion - Footcare creams, powders, or Moleskin - Wrapped candy or throat lozenge - Aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil packets PERSONAL BLISTER KITS: Use Gallon-Sized Closable Plastic Bag - 1 pair of socks - 4-6 individual packets of antibiotic ointment (or antiseptic wipes) - Gauze pads or 1 gauze roll - 1 roll of tape or several large band-aids - 10-15 cotton balls PERSONAL HYGEINE KITS: Use Gallon-Sized Closable Plastic Bag - Toothbrush (in wrapper) - Small Toothpaste - Shampoo - Soap - Razor - Comb - Washcloth/Hand Towel (does not need to be new, just clean) Thank you so much for your support and commitment to working for human rights.
