Community Education Forum on Globalization
An important part of our job in working for a just immigration system and for justice for migrants is making the link between the products that are imported to the US and the people who are forced to export themselves. You could hold a forum for the community where people are invited to look more closely at the national origins of the products that they purchase and to ask the question of what goes into their production. It will be up to you to make the connection between the end product that we see here and the small communities in other nations whose resources are sapped in producing it.
Such a forum does not have to be billed as a pro-immigration event as much as a time to pull back the curtain to reveal practices that industries would prefer we not see and most people would prefer not to think about. In the end it should have the effect of dispelling some ignorance surrounding the causes of immigration as well as help people to see that the purchase of a product is a vote of support for the company that produces it.
New Sanctuary will provide support in the planning of the forum as well as educational resources.
